I remember cold winter evenings in our family home, with cousins, uncles, aunts and grandparents, the projector focused on the biggest wall in our living room. Whether it was my dad’s escapades in Europe or my uncle’s artistic knack for photographing any family event, I knew those early years of my life looking at images on our Rollei P350AF Heidosmat Slide Projector, that photography will be something that will always be a big part of my life…
Move forward 10 or so years and the time has come for me to decide what to do with my life after school, I started with a diploma in photography whilst volunteering at my local church. Those were the days of 35mm film, as a youngster developing film and putting my work out there was rather expensive, so I put a hold on my studies to pursue a career in the marine and boating industry to pay the bills, yet I always knew that taking photos would still have a profound impact on my life.
I got married in 2011, and on our honeymoon Lize Mari and myself decided for me to go all in as a photographer. I spent the next 5 years finishing my diploma and refining my skills as a professional. I now try to adopt a mindset of knowledge and understanding everyday so that I don’t become complacent in the way I approach photography and business, therefore I am always open minded with any dealings I have with clients.
I realize that there are very few people that can say this, but by the grace of God I have been able to make a living out of doing the thing that I love, for this I will be eternally grateful. So, I can assure you that any photographic work that I do, I do because of my deep affection for the art form, I push my boundaries and strive for the exceptional.
